I don't know WHO was the idiot that thought including so many capship missles was somehow FUN.... but it is NOT... it is FRUSTRATING!

One or two at a time is ok, but they way this game is designed, some idiot has a love for capship missles!

I wish they would have used their brains and figured out how incredibly HARD it is to shoot down those things!

Just ONE gets by and you fail a mission!

Sorry, but the games fun was taken out the minute they included those stupid things.

And yes, I do know how to hit B, but even that is hard when you have 4 or more to deal with while trying to fly and do everything else!

This inclusion of capship missles in the numbers they are takes the fun out of this game for me.

I never had too much trouble myself, but I that might be because capship point defences get better on higher difficulty levels.

If you want, I could whip up a modified table to decrease their damage output a bit.

What I would really like, is a trainer with unlimited guns and missle's. Then I could take care of the capship missles myself.

Not quite a trainer, but placing this in a file called something-wep.tbm in <WCS folder>/data/tables should make guns consume 100 times less energy and confed fighters able to carry 10 000 times more missiles.

EDIT - if the folder data/tables does not exist, just create it, the game will recognize it and any .tbl/.tbm file in it automatically.

Use the "B" key to target and cycle through capship missiles... Makes it a lot easier to keep track of em.

Just started playing this and I gotta agree with the OP on the "too much cap ship missles" point. I thought the Vega mission (4?) where you had to shoot down all the missles before fighting in the planets sky was bad, with Afterburners being used up stopping the missles as the other fighters only destroy the first handful of them, leaving me to destroy about 15-20 on my own (thank god they counted towards kill count so I could give that estamate), it makes the rest of the mission so much harder.

Proxima 2 (I think) was a lot worse. Arrow is probably the worst ship to shoot so far for me (on the ship transfer mission a couple of missions after it) and it's like threading a needle you've lost in a haystack to shoot down the missiles in it. Atleast the Hell Cat had a sort of spread to get them, but not the arrow. And you have to defend the convoy 3 times against a barage of them. I'm fine with the corvettes firing them in their waypoints as atleast it was 1 at a time.

Also the B button loved to make me go to the furthest away missles, even if I had 5 directly infront of me, using the target in crosshairs command instead was better for mid sections in those sections, but it can be too damn fidgity with cap ships being targetted instead. Still going to play on though.

Yeah, the planetary bombardment mission has been giving me all sorts of trouble in my "upgrade" project. I'm still looking for ways to force the wingmen to engage their afterburners to keep shooting down the missiles, but no luck so far. I'd fake the burner Axem-style, but it's kinda hackish and overly complicated.

The Arrow's gun placement is a bit awkward, but it's actually well suited for shooting down incoming missiles like that if you glide alongside the missiles and shoot them one by one. Then again, your wingmen don't engage the missiles until they get pretty close, iirc.

In old versions of Freespace Open, up to the one Wing Commander Saga is based on, the 'B' targeting key cycles through the bombs by order of creation, ie targets the oldest ones first. In newer versions of FSO, it actually targets the closest bombs, but unfortunately, it won't get ported to Saga anytime soon, as the dev team hasn't released the source code.
