Dunno, but I guess the moment was overshadowed by the Mass Effect 3 release and 'end' discussion in the gaming world.

Plus marketing on WCSaga is much smaller. It is really dependant on fans informing various forums I think.

An online multiplayer modus will attract new players. People really like the idea of a game like WC being multiplayer, even non WC players.

Back in the '90s Wing Commander was the first. And I still prefer the WC serie to X-Wing/Tie Fighter but nowadays I think a game like WC labeled X-Wing / Star Wars or even Battlestar Galactica would see double numbers of downloads.

Yeah, I have to say that I think it's a bit premature to say "there's no market for this." We always new that WCSaga would be a niche product, but while there has been some very positive media coverage from a few sites, we didn't have an advertising budget. I suspect there are lots of people out there who would love WCSaga, but just haven't heard about it yet. I suppose time will tell, but I think it's too soon to sound the death knell for the genre just yet.

I am also now past the point which the above speaker mentioned, and am loving it. In terms of graphics this is the best space sim game I have played in several years. I am much more reminded of Star Lancer (which I replayed about 8 months ago) than freelancer.

Regarding work and marketing - I really think that you guys should get rewarded for your work, having done it all. A few pointers:

1. Relaunch of WC 1-5 in new graphics (i.e. you script the missions, EA contributes the rights to the old film material and provides marketing, and you split 50-50). I have never played the old WC, was always a tie fighter fan, but would love now to play them with new graphics.
2. Contact somebody like DTP to make a box set for WCS - i.e. still free download, but people who want to support it can buy a nice box and DVD.
3. With 100k downloads - contact Chris Roberts and see whether he wants to go at it again with you guys. I am sure he can think of several ways how to turn it into a viable commercial project.

I think looking forward you really should think about revenue generation, and even if it is just to fund future extension projects.

Congratulations again, great effort and great result!

First, I must say: Fantastic job!

Second, I've been playing the game since release, and I absolutely love it... that's why I wanted to comment in this thread. As mentioned before, 100 000 downloads is not bad for a game that has had no advertising at all. I myself work in the gaming industry - thus I'm constantly surrounded by people who play games all the time - and still I found out about this game just a week before the release, because I accidently stumbled upon your page. I was searching for mods to make the old space shooters I have look a little bit better.
So it was purely by accident. If I hadn't searched that day, I maybe never would have found out about this little gem, because now I am the one telling it to everybody. I even got WC4 gifted to me on gog.com by a fellow forummember, just for letting him know about this game... So apparently people really wanted a game like this, but just didn't know it existed.

You guys made a lot of people happy - and probably feel young again. You should be proud! :)

At times where big companies screw up game endings so badly that it actually hurts a lot of the fans, we ARE in fact very proud of that, yes.

I wanted to thank you guys for this GAME!! Totally AWESOME!! I started playing the orginal Wing Commander game about 22 years ago and it was (for it's time) one of the BEST games ever released. I loved the cockpit feel, the action and the graphics. It only got better from that point with (for me) WC3 and 4 being the best.

I have not seen or experienced that type of gameplay since, well, since the 90's. Also I'm running an analog joystick in windows 7 and this game recognizes it and works beautifully!! Just beautifully!!

Thanks to all the guys that put this together. It is exciting, graphics are gorgeous and the exciting gameplay all takes me back 20 years to where I really enjoyed this type of game.

I have looked over and over and tried for years to find a game with this type of feel and one that worked with the analog joystick. I found so many that just would not recognize it and it is just NO fun at all to have to use a mouse to fly your fighter.

Congrats to you guys again and thanks!

Tarl

I created an account just for the express purpose of tipping my hat to all that were involved in the creation of this awesome game...I just completed all the missions in a whirlwind 24 hour session, and although I was sad to see the story end (AKA no more missions), I loved the tie ends with WC3 and WC4. Loved the cameos too. I have already told my other space jet jockey friends to check it out! Again from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!!!!

Yeah, I imagine an update in download statistics would be good.
I bet more than 1 million download achieved since launch.

Community like WCNews ( www.wcnews.com ) and Facebook page ( www.facebook.com/wcsaga ) should help spread the news further.

The price of freedom, is eternal vigilance.

ATM we have 311.603 downloads on the mirrors with visible download counter. But there are several other mirrors without visible counters. I assume - conservatively - that we have 500K.

Tools: Setup ZIP Check & UnZip ...and more
HowTo's: Joystick: configure throttle and rudder ...and more
Projects: WCS+ ...and more
