I am a Survivor was created by The Metal Monkey
HI all

Just been flying around in those Sabers , OMG did they forget the sheilds on that bad boy ? I am not sure how I managed to do the first mission, No Joke Landing at blue point was such a relief , I nearly got wiped out by the blast radius of one of the Destroyers ships I torpedo'd , It left me with 10% on the hull , later on defending the Carrier Which I accidently bashed into leaving me with 2 % :( finally manged to duck n dive and clipped the landing deck of bluepoint I was aT 1 %

Someone say lucky b@$###D

I do miss the old WC1 when you got damaged , I seem to remember Wires hanging out VDU's blank Warning lights stuck on. I remember at one point having 2 or three missles I couldnt fire because the targeting system wouldnt lock on and 1 laser canon working. never say die I was trying to take out a drayman with a Porcupine mine. Some might say eject and get the medal at that point , but the Eject system was fried aswell.

I think it would be pretty neat/fun to have damage cripple your ship in that manner as well

I think sub-systems can get damaged on Darkest Dawn, but not to the degree of Wing Commander. I too loved the sirens blaring away, my radar flickering precariously, panels being blown out, and launchers jammed.

Then there was that time the damage report machine was destroyed.

Yes the Subsystems do get damasged , but they also repair themselves aswell

In the heat of battle just below the Hull damage % information it sometimes pops up with targeting system damaged then it repairs so quick, if you blink you miss it .

In the old WC1 I remeber my Navigation system was offline and I had to navigate to the Nav point by using the map and pointing my ship in the general direction.

Which does raise another question is therea Nav map in DD ? I use to like change what point I was flying to. like I could go to Nav 2 before nave 1 , to avoid flying through the asteroids.

I suppose in DD it would break the plot though.

I would like to see some cockpits like WC1 and 2. I kinda like the way each ship limited your view depending on the shape of it. and the VDU layout.

In essence from WC4 onwards the only way you new you were in a different ship was by amount / type of guns number of missles and how fast it went , Its kinda the same in DD . Myabe they could go a halfway step and do like they do In X3 with the nose of the ship you are in being visible. And maybe stretch when you engage after burners

Your Nav points are scripted, so ...no...you don't have the option of changing Nav points as you were able to in some earlier versions of Wing Commander.

Subsystems do get damaged and just as in Wing Commander the repair system can restore them as long as the damage hasn't reached 100%. it is fully possible to lose sonsors, engines or weapons. and if that damage is at 100% these systems are gone for good.

One tester had exactly that happen to him. He lost his weapons system but was able to sucessfully beat the mission by using his wingmen and the comm system effectively.

it happens rarely but if you 'attack multiple tanks head on in a hellcat' it might happen to you.

Using comm systems? It is only in a very low % of the missions you can actually use comms.

Alas, I love missions succeeded with less then 15% hull integrity left. :)

That doesn't change the fact that this little story really happened :)
