what do you use to play?

right now im using a mouse & keyboard but i noticed the game recognizes 360 controllers. does anyone use one for this game? if so, how do you have it setup and will you share the setup?

or do you use a joystick? does it work well with this game?

i'm just curious about how everyone else is playing this and wouldn't mind maybe playing with my 360 controller and keyboard(and mouse too, i'd like to be able to use all 3, is that possible?)

The game was designed for a joystick but a 360 controller works very well also.

I use Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick and with 5 axes and 12 buttons available (not counting HAT switch) I pretty much fly HOTAS with only some commands from keyboard like ALT-A and energy managment.

I use a Saitek Cyborg gold 3D USB Joystick. This one converts for Left handers and has 14 buttons. Still not enough for this game but it brings back old memories.

Went back to using my Saitek X45. I was having trouble getting the assignment screen to recognize my Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS set and didn't feel like spending a lot of time making keyboard assignments for it.

CH Flightstick Pro USB. Simple but very durable. I am also a lefty so I am sort of limited to ambidextrous sticks. Personally I wouldn't know what to do with more than four buttons, a throttle and a POV hat, LOL.

I would love to get a set of CH rudder pedals, CH's configuration program can set it so that the pedals would simply be mapped as additional axis for the stick instead of as a separate USB device (the pedals slide for rudder control, and push down for toe brakes).

I once owned a Saitek Cyborg, it broke within a week, the spring was WAY too stiff for the cheap plastic surrounding it, though it was only $14 as I recall. With flightsticks you get what you pay for.

But transfered movement from numeric keypad to the 4 arrow keys.

Mouse/Keyboard combination.

I've changed WASD to increase/decrease throttle and turn left/right, although I rarely use that. Would've liked to use that for strafing, but obviously it doesn't exist in Saga (at least with the ships I've been allowed to fly so far).
Q and E to roll left/right. There seems to be no way to achieve that with the mouse only.
F is now "target nearest enemy fighter" for me.


I've also used AutoHotKey to bind "increase/decrease throttle" to my mouse wheel (which wasn't working by default in the option settings, I'm not sure if this is intentional or not), as well as "drop decoy" and "transfer energy from weapon to shield" to my two additional mouse buttons. A click on the mouse wheel matches my speed with my current target.


Additionally I've set the deadzone for the joystick to the minimum setting, which also affects the mouse flight. Subjectively this felt a huge improvement, as the mouse flight gets much more direct this way.


I'm currently thinking about using AHK to set up different hotkeys for energy management as well. For the default key bindings I have to move my hand away from the mouse, which is, well, kind of bad during combat.

one of my squad mates from sweden sent me a ms sw ffb pro 2 usb stick and i cant describe how happy i am about that =)

this stick is ...hmm about 15 to 20 yrs old and feels like brand new ,nothing is worn out,AMAZING!!!
no single scratch on surfce,buttons shiny,cables still agile.....

logitech crap gets worn out after 2-3 month,x52 series is unprecise and also wears out quickly...the MS stick is 15 yrs old and still in fokin great shape !!!!

A sealed box of this stick you can find on amazon for 600 dollars

A used one with one year warranty about 150 euro.

Woah wing commander with force feedback is like S.X hehehe

Forget warthog,cougar and this overprized rest...(i tested them)...if you want best ergonomics ,best force feedback of all time and unbelievable reliability...MS still is and sadly ever will be the stuff.

An other option is really hardcore...there are replicas of original ww2 sticks out there to buy...tarmacaces.com

carbonfibre 1:1 replica of the german me109 stick...unbeatable in ergonomics since ww2 ... fun starts at 1000 euro

maybe when i hit the jackpot i will order a complete set and build up a cockpit
