Can all ships Glide?

Forum ▸ Vacuum Breather

I assigned keys to this function but so far not able to glide with my ships.

Anyone know what I need to do to glide?

From the games Readme.rtf file.

It should be noted that the Arrow and Excalibur feature the same autoslide (or "Shelton Slide") feature that they had in Wing Commander III. Autoslide is toggled on and off by pressing Alt + G. When Autoslide is engaged, maneuvering the Arrow and/or Excalibur with the joystick or keyboard will make it pivot on its axis without changing its direction of flight, which has multiple tactical usages.

Please read the game's documents, they will answer a lot of questions.

Personally, I find it odd that only those two ships have that function, because all it really is is turning off the rear thrusters. Is the confederation just really bad at building ships that can turn while they're not being propelled forward? It's space, not the ocean. Realistically, glide should be available by default.

Then again, this game DOES take place in underwater space where you can hear other ships fly by and constant thrust = constant speed. Reality was never a big part of it. I'm still bothered by the seemingly arbitrary choice to have two ships that are able to violate WC's fictional space physics.

To be fair, the decision was made in Wing Commander 3; WCSaga's ships all work basically the same way they did in WC3. So feel free to complain, but remember the decision was made a decade ago by an unrelated group of people 😉

yeah cause theres no way the script could be written so that we get into some black-ops wing that gets customized super versions of all the fighters with glide, "skipper killer" swarm missles, and auto-aim beams 😛 /jk i love the story you guys made 😊

BTW Just a note I recently found out about the Glide feature and needed to use it for one of the missions . Worked a treat . But after the most recent update I found that ALT G had been unassigned . Strange .
