Please post any problems or comments specific to this mission here.

No problems on first run through.

Spoiler (click to reveal)Was thinking of trying to break it by destroying the cruiser before it becomes friendly.

Spoiler (click to reveal)You would simply get a traitor ending for attacking a friendly ship.

Spoiler (click to reveal)I've just tried to torpedo it before it got friendly. That thing must be set on invulnerable. Can you confirm it?

Also, I couldn't make it out who (the Jim Bowie's CO or Major Dellaney) debriefs Sandman and Avatarr in this mission. And what's an ONI officer?

Btw. I think that Avatarr is funny.

ONI = Office of Naval Intelligence

Venom (Jim Bowie guy) is debriefing you.

Spoiler (click to reveal)It was a hard decision to kill one of our own ships - I think that this mission has a very good dramatical effect. Only thing that seemed a bit odd to me: The officer you are communicating with wants you to destroy the ship in order to prevent the Kilrathi from being infected with the virus? He said that even his worst enemy wouldn't deserve such a death - but the cats created the virus that killed so many of his friends - imho he should think more about revenge and not about saving some furballs...

Besides, are you planning on more nebula missions? Or will there be some nebula missions with a FreeSpace-like, darker nebula with electro-magnetical interferences?

There are no more missions in nebulas no. Caliban is the only system that is inside a nebula, that we will visit.

Also he is a Hospital Corpsman. So he is a medic, and even as a non-medical officer, I can fully understand what he's saying. He's seen a suffering that he simply doesn't want to inflict on anybody else.

That's a fancy euphemism for "we wanted to blow up a Savannah-class cruiser". 😂

The second Caliban mission starts off with you going out to assist the Jim Bowie. After launch the conversation with your flight leader seems to make it apparent that these missions seem to be introducing the player to their squadron mates in the Mud Shark squadron. The first fight defending the Jim Bowie I think works well as if you are on task it is in no danger but if you slip up just a little bit the attacking fighters can inflict some serious damage on it.

The rest of the mission is a great piece of storytelling as there are only a few actual ships involved. It was good to see the Savanna-class light cruiser in game finally even if it was in less than stellar condition in this particular mission.

When the mission concluded the way the Jim Bowie sends you on your way with a Kilrathi carrier group bearing down is great setup for the an interesting event in the next mission. I liked how in the debriefing you got told what Jim Bowie’s captain was not allowed to tell you.

beta8 playthrough:

nothing unusual happened. I can't add much to what has already been said. Another mission with a very sad atmosphere. But that's the way it should be, constant waves of ups and downs and many great story telling moments.

And good work on the torpedo targeting. I was very suprised when the missile lock rectangle suddenly appeared on a friendly ship 😊

I've played this mission again. and I could swear that the ambient music didn't repeat itself after it had been played to the end. But before I open up a Mantis ticket, I'd like to play it again in order to confirm it. Edit: Never mind, looks like it was my imagination.

I didn't notice any bugs. The scripts are running fine, music plays like it should and the comm text and voiceovers play and match, too.

Greenlighting status updated.
