It seems that the current catalyst drivers (11.6) have a bit of a problem with OpenGL. I personally had a lot of trouble with them (our mission editor and model editor freezing for seconds, the game stuttering and even freezing in windowed mode...)
So if you experience anything similar with Saga and you're running this version of Catalyst, you might want to go back to 11.5 (there's also a preview of 11.7 out which runs smoothly but seems to be very unstable sometimes)
The effect in the release version of Saga, which you are using, will be less noticable than I described from the debug versions. In release it is probably best described as "stuttery without framerate dropping". You will stay at 60fps but sometimes the game seems to "skip" a frame or so, without any real framerate drop.

I've had frame skipping ever since. The update from 11.5 to 11.6 didn't change anything. The Frameskip appears only on activated Vertical Sync option, at least on my system.
When did you start having it?
KeldorKatarn wrote:When did you start having it?I had it ever since, but I think it's engine-specific - had the same issue with FreeSpace 2 Open... At least I couldn't find a workaround yet but to disable vsync.
That's not so good. Ah well... stupid rendering engine. if I could I'd trash the entire thing and rebuild it or use a differnt one. Sigh
The offcial Catalyst drivers have always been pretty bad, especially in the OpenGL sector. Too bad there aren't any decent alternatives these days. Will report here if I encounter any problems on my notebook (uses an Radeon HD Mobility 4570).

FekLeyrTarg"] I tried the Omegas a few times, but the system's stability decreased too much so that I had too many hang-ups. But at least my vSync-issue isn't vendor-specific. Had the same cr*p with my nVIDIAs 😊
Omega drivers are HORRIBLY outdated and do not support several generations of cards.
I upgraded my Catalyst driver to 11.7 this morning, and so far it seems to be running fine without any of the issues I had in the past. I've played through all three Caliban missions without any trouble.
