Please clarify. All you need is following:
1. install previous beta 2. install beta 5
can you pls send me the link again of the previous beta. After the Reinstall (new hdd) I've lost the beta files and the system req.
Downloaded and installed the update. When I start the game I get the following message:
Web cursor bitmap not found. This is most likely due to one of three reasons:
1) You're running Wing Commander Saga from somewhere other than your FreeSpace 2 folder;
2) You've somehow corrupted your FreeSpace 2 installation, e.g. by modifying or removing the retail VP files;
3) You haven't installed FreeSpace 2 at all. (Note that installing Wing Commander Saga does NOT remove the need for a FreeSpace 2 installation.)
Number 1 can be fixed by simply moving the Wing Commander Saga executable file to the FreeSpace 2 folder. Numbers 2 and 3 can be fixed by installing or reinstalling FreeSpace 2.

Guys... you do know that this has to install on top of beta 4 right?

The thread is still in the News forum, just not sticky anymore

Get it here.
I installed it "on top of beta 4". But it seems like the installer has a different folder as its default installation folder than the real beta 4 folder so it actually installs its contents into a new folder (Beta 0.9.5.5308) unless you change the folder to your beta 4 one. I got it to run, though.
Ok people. Obviously some people are having trouble.
If you cannot install and play Beta 5, please let us know EXACTLY what you had installed before the installation and WHERE you are installing the new Beta and WHAT it says when it doesn't work.

More specifically, please make a screenshot of the installer showing any popups (e.g. error messages) and a screenshot showing installation path. On my system, correct installation folder had been detected.
Ok the problem seems to be the autodetection of the Beta 4 folder. Sorry for that. Please make sure you set it manually. We will make sure this works next time around.
Hotfix for Mission 10 is online.
ok, I didn't read anything about changes to the cutscene performance but somehow it works fine for me now.
We haven't been able to fix the issue (fully) yet.
Still it seems to be much better now 😉

Perhaps it wasn't that bad on your machine. For me the intro movie was realy realy slow starting with the scene where the shuttle passes the moon.

We'll see how it goes. Hopefully we'll have a fix ready for you in time for the next beta. Beta 6, codename "Nifelheim" is scheduled for release in two weeks time.
Looks like I might be reinstalling...Before I do any ideas?
I installed the patch. It didn't detect the directory (it was in the Program Files (x86) directory on C:) and installed on it's own. No error messages or indications of a problem until I started the game and it started breaking at that point due to missing interface assets. Pretty bog standard FreeSpace error messages. So I merged the two directories and did not over wright the old files. So that seems to work.
The problem is... my ship is stuck in a continual counter clockwise roll. Refuses to stop unless I enter external view and lock the controls. Then it stops. So some sort of input is telling it to roll. The stick is a X-52 Saitek and it's working fine (verified by going into IL-2 1946 and checking the Saitek control inputs).
Has this happened to anyone else since the patch?
Also I tried creating a new pilot just in case the controls were screwed up somewhere in the profile. No luck!
When I dowloaded "Loki", I had to specify which directory for it to load to. Then when I downloaded the patch, I deleted the old mission 10 file (or whatever the number was) and added the new one in its place, all is working well for me. I am using a Saitek ST90 Joystick.
Try unbinding the roll axis. Also check if the mouse control is activated.

Yes we changed the controls mapping because it was buggy before, checking and assigning the wrong axis (That's why the XBox controller didn't work)
Simply re-assign all axis and you should be fine.
Cheers!
I'll give that a go and see what happens.
Rebound the axis and now it's great again. Thanks!

Did anyone noticed that after installing Beta 5 you have 2 Wing Commander Saga Beta folders in the Menu Start -> Programs group with the different version number (at least I do)? It's not a big issue as the shortcuts points to the same files, but nevertheless the Programs list grows... and I don't know if all will be removed after uninstall (in Add/Remove Programs there is one entry of WCSB with Beta 4 version number). BTW will the Beta 6 will be incremental update like Beta 5, or stand-alone?
Stand alone.
