Options/ Control Settings
my first impress was a kind of desillusion. I tried to put all controls on my Joystick and failed. The control settings are not neatly arranged in my opinion and i get frustrated search the things i need.
Finally i gave up, because it was not possible to assign the X and Y axis of my Joystick to any function, except the pre-defined (I have a Speed-Link Cougar)
However, the whole option-screen was a bit cumbersome to me :/
Can you elaborate?
the Main Problem is the assignment to the joystick unfortunatly i can not assign "Bank" or other essential functions to the axis.
With cumbersome i mean that there are too much options at one screen. Perhaps more sub-screens like "ship", "weapons" could be made. But this is subjectively and must not be the same to everyone

Why can't you assign it? When you move the axis, doesn't it recognize it? And why would you want to re-assign it anyway. It should be assigned by default if a joystick is found. You DO have your joystick selected in the launcher don't you?

I'm sorry but that's not an option. There simply are this many functions. You don't need to assign them all. More screens would make it even more cumbersome in my opinion.
Besides.. having this many options is what made these games what they were: Simulations, not arcade. We are very happy to have as many options as the old classic games like X-Wing, TIE Fighter and Freespace. Even Wing Commander had a lot more than your standard arcade action shooter of nowadays (Although even Mass Effect had quite a command list assigned to the kayboard 😉 )
You're totally right. I remember to use many of the options in WC3, but with mouse and keyboard. My 1st post was the result of frustration, cos dont get my favorite spacesim work with that (Joy)stick!
my prob in detail: Pitch Axis -> assigned to "Joystick/Mouse Y Axis" Bank Axis -> assigned to "Joystick/Mouse X Axis"
the Y Axis just works with mouse, not with joystick the X Axis just works with joystick, not with mouse :?

First of all, it is very unlikely that one works with mouse and the other with the joystick. If the Mouse is activated however the joystick is DEactivated for everything. So if you have mouse steering activated, please DEactivate it.
Make sure you have a joystick selected in the launcher AND you have mouse steering DEactivated in the game. Also make sure you are using our latest Beta 2. if you don't know whether you have it, then most likely you don't. There is a news post about it in our News forum containing the link.
Make sure all that is the case then please report back.
THanks for your help. The new Patch fixed the problem up. (see also http://www.wcsaga.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=431#p431, I swear that the problems existed like described!)
Sorry for looking not first if theres a new version out and steal your time like this. Now i can enjoy flying and go further on with testing
