Turrets

Ok, another topic dealing with the question : bug or engine limitations ?

I've noticed that turrets behave in many different ways. Some turrets try to face you when firing, others face the opposite direction. For example: the hermes turrets will fire on you while keeping track of your movement while the turrets on the southhampton-class ships will always fire facing backwards.

Could you please open a ticket in our bugtracker? Thanks. 😉

This is VERY strange. Very exactly does this happen? I cannot reproduce this. Please add a detailed report to the Mantis ticket.

I'd like to recommend to either take screenshots or to record some footage of this problem using FRAPS.

It is indeed very strange. Took screen shots of this issue. I will open a ticket at mantis and include the images.

EDIT: Simple thing to recreate. I've been able to watch this turret behaviour at all terran cap ships. (didn't have the time to try this on the kilrathi ones) The turrets on the front (the side of the ship you are facing) will behave in a normal way. The ones on the other side will just flip around and fire facing backwards.

I still cannot reproduce this at all.

ok, I don't know why, but since I updated my video drivers to the latest version today (didn't notice they were already outdated) the bug didn't reappear. I have no explanation for this, but the screenshot attached to the mantis entry shows that it actually happened! I'm a bit confused now

EDIT: To make things clear : I was able to reproduce this a dozen times before the driver update and it always appeared to be broken. 😉

It has nothing to do with the driver update. Load the mission in question up, then quit, then load it again. On the second run you should experience the bug.

I got it fixed for Beta 2.

Ahh... ok, you are right. Hope that I could help you after all 🙄

Well there were only so many things that could trigger this. And the mission reload triggers this. It turns out on mission REload the turret orientation matrices aren't reset. But now they are.
