I have an HP Slimline elite wireless keyboard. Model number is RK713A. When i adjust the volume or hit the mute button it throws me out of the game and back to deskstop most of the time. Sometimes it goes to deskstop then back to the game but in "pause" mode.

That sounds like an issue with that particular keyboard's driver. It probably tries to update some system tray icon and that indeed may cause the game to be minimized and lose focus. That's however standard windows behavior and cannot be overriden by the engine. The engine will also have trouble when ICQ or Skype opens up some message window etc. So I recommend turning that stuff off before starting the game. The game however should simply pause and you should be able to get right back into it if necessary.
I know this sounds annoying and like an excuse, but windows focus handling is done by the OS. An application cannot override easily.
This happend to me in other games as well. Some Skype message came in and my game minimizes, or even worse, loses focus without pauseing and that in the middle of a mission battle. That just happends ^^
Ok, i understand. Especially under the Vista OS. But, like you said it does just drop focus on the game sometimes without pausing. of course the fix for me is just not to use the volume controls on the keyboard: problem solved. Which is what i was doing anyway but i did just want to mention it to you guys. Thanks for the reply and you can close this thread as far as i am concerned.
