I'm using a Thrustmaster HOTAS X thingy, which is working fine in windows 7, but whenever I try to bind a command to one of the buttons (or axis) the game doesn't recognize that anything's happening.
When I launch an actual mission the game doesn't respond to any input from the joystick either.
The joystick is recognized by windows AND the game's launcher.
Does it work with the Prologue or other FS2-based games, including FS2 itself?

I have the same stick and it works fine on 32bit XP Pro SP3.
haven't played prologue on this computer yet. Also: When I played prologue I had a top gun afterburner, which worked fine. But that was on windows Vista.
EDIT: Currently downloading the prologue, will see what happens.
I'm having the same issue with the prologue. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? (and if so how it's fixed 😛)
Did you select your primary input device in the launcher? Is the mouse control deactivated?
I also can't use my joystick on any FS2-based game on my PC in my father's flat, even if I have activated it in the launcher. It does work on other games. The reason I haven't reported it was because it isn't a WCSaga-Beta specific issue.
Please make sure mouse control is deactivated in the F2 Options Menu.

FekLeyrTarg"]We use a differnt way of steering with the mouse. Having both mouse and joystick active at the same time doesn't make any sense.
About this specific joystick issue, sorry, no idea what the problem could be and there is no way for us to track it down without at least having the hardware available.
Do the launcher and windows recognize more than one joystick? is that thing recognized as two or more devices? Do you have any other gamepad/joystick like devices attached?
Please also try the following:
Download our debug build:
http://www.wcsaga.com/rc_download/6WmUWo8rbmcKxTQG7qmrI9VMmjWS3Ex/wcsaga_d.zip
and run it.
Then go to {your Documents folder}\Volition\Wing Commander Saga\data and post the fs2_open.log. (As a zip file attachment please, do not paste the entire thing into a post)
will do that as soon as I get some food stuffed into my facehole.
I'd already tried disabling the mouse, as that's what has been suggested in other threads of a similar nature. I've selected the joystick in the launcher. It's just completely non-responsive in both WCS and the prologue.
make sure you have correct key bindings in the controls options. See if your joystick axis and buttans are assigned accordingly. Sometimes after Beta update I had to re-map some of them.
That's probably not the issue here, let me see the log first before we continue speculating.
I have now been lasagnified and have attached the log thingy to this thingy. I hope the thingy helps. 😁
Here are my ones. Btw my Joystick is a Saitek 290 Pro. I've also tested if my Gamepad, a "Thrustmaster Dual Trigger Force Gamepad PS2/PC 3.3", works and it does. Very strange.
Edit: Also, on other PCs, the ST290 Pro works with all FS2-Based games.
I'll look into it.
When I woke up this morning I had a stroke of inspiration and plugged in my old joystick. After dusting it off that is. It's an old MS Sidewinder Precision Pro. It works.
It should, I'm using the same one.
but I'll also look into getting the other ones to work.
That'd be highly appreciated. Flying with a stick is way more accurate than flying with the mouse btw.
Yes, my Saitek Joystick is more accurate than my mouses or my Thrustmaster Gamepad.
Try this build and please provide me with the log again.
looks like that fixed it. At least the game's picking up on my throttle movements and joystick presses. Will playtest it now before going to bed. (The game's so good midnight turned into 4.50am without me noticing!)
I've got some issues with some of the dialog but right now I'm just doing my first playthrough to see if I notice any major issues (like my bloody joystick not working 😛). Will then do a per mission re-play and make notes of any issues I come across.
EDIT: Confirmed fix. All 12 buttons working. I might actually try messing with it and activating the 5th axis this thing supports. (Seperates the throttle rudder control from the one on the stick and adds it as another axis) What to do with another axis is somewhat beyond me though 😛 Thanks for the fix Keldor!
My Joystick still doesn't work. Hmmmmm..... The specifications of the PC I'm using until the 1st September are the following: NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4600 @ 2.40GHz 1023 MB RAM OpenGL Version 3.30 DirectX 9.0C (4.09.0000.0904) Windows XP (The information is from Everest Home Edition and DXDIAG)
Edit: I've installed a newer driver and still nothing. I don't understand it. Why does it work on other PCs and why not this one?
Sometimes I have issues with my USB driver stack. Try to plug it into another USB port: When you tried it with the onboard ports, try plugging the stick into the front USB (that is, if you have one) or the other way round, if it's already connected via front USB...
Just installed beta 9. Joystick not working again 😢
THAT is strange ^^. Well I'll look into it. Hopefully I can supply you with some kind of a hotfix.
that would be quite awesome sauce 😁 My sidewinder pro works, so at least I'm not flopping around withe mouse controls 😐
