Afterburner integration into throttle axis.

I wonder if the afterburner could be intagrated into throttle axis and not act as a separate button (like in any ordinary flight sim)? So when I want to engage the AB i just have to snap my throttle to full aft position. Is it doable?

But why do you want to change it from a key binding to an axis? There has always been an afterburner button and I think that this is one aspect of an authentic Wing Commander feeling. The afterburner-via-axis contol is a good idea for an F-16c in a flight simulator, but for a Hellcat? 😳 naah 😉

Why would anyone want to change the graphics engine of the original, let's just use the 2D sprites for models from WC1/WC2... 😁 Think this is crazy, well me too. The button was in fact used because the joystick with throttle was rarely seen back in WC1/2 era, maybe more common in later WC games.

For this same reason I would like to see a non-mandatory 'option' to use my throttle to engage afterburner. I'm pretty sure, that if this was possible, you could still use your button to use afterburner if this was more convenient to you.

The only advantage of current method (with key/button) is that you can fire your afterburner even if you are not on full throttle while in throttle-only control you would have to push your throttle past the AB detent to enagge afterburners. Even so I would still like to have an option to use my throttle alone to control all funtions of the engines, while mapping my AB button on my joystick to different function.

I am sorry, but this is not doable in the time frame we have. This is a so called "C class" feature, a gimmick, that could be implemented if one has the time and resources.

It sounds like a more generic type of addition that could be programmed by the SCP (FreeSpace 2 source code project) and brought into the WC:Saga fork later (I assume you guys forked at some point).

Sorry, closed as "won't be done". @Ice: We do no longer cooperate with SCP in any way where the engine is concerned.

I could implement this, but as was already mentioned, this is a Wing Commander game and the afterburner works as designed. No need for a change.
