Background Graphics

Forum ▸ Graphics

First, I want to complement the team that put together the background astronomical graphics. The star fields and nebulae are wonderful. With complements respectfully and duly given, I’m wondering what the possibility is to modify the background a little bit. The star fields, planets, occasional moon and nebulae are awesome, but in many true astronomical images, you will find some form a galaxy. Of course the galatic images vary depending on the type of galaxy viewed, whether it is a bar galaxy, a spiral galaxy, a disc galaxy, etc. So my question is whether or not a galaxy or two can be added to the background graphics in at least one of the systems in the sector, and maybe even a comet. Though not easily recognized there are at least galaxies visible from the earth with the naked eye (Andromeda [M31], and the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds). If it’s too much work at this stage of the game, that’s understandable.

Skyboxes are final sorry. I also think it is a little unlikely for galaxies to be large enough to the eye to be visible and really noticable.

Any other opinions on this?

Sounds like a good idea if you ask me.

Meh I meant about the graphics in general. Qualitywise

lol 😂 Most of the images are very nice, especially the Loki ones. But you said the skyboxes were final? For what it's worth: The only ones I don't like so much are the in-atmosphere skyboxes (Valkyrie-Mission). Would be great if they had a higher resolution. They simply look too bitmap-like.

Stinger"] I think that this one is most awesome and unique. And the resolution seems pretty high to me. Or maybe I'm getting blind 😛

I agree with damson. The vega-skybox doesn't seem to be of low quality to me.

I also have nothing to complain about the Vega Skybox.

Actually that skybox is only 1024 resolution while all other skyboxes have 2048 resolution. But the atmospheric skybox we got from the website of an artist not at all involved in Saga and he didn't make them for Saga, we just used them and asked him for permission (he has a cameo btw 😉 )

So we simply didn't have them in any higher resolution nor could be produce our own. We are very happy to have that skybox at all 😊 aspecially since I managed to blend that city below in, which originally was on another skybox of his. That city originally wasn't part of the skybox.

So we're pretty happy with it. Better a skybox with a slightly lower resolution which enables us to have a mission in the atmosphere than have none at all. Originally that navpoint was planned to take place in space, just close to the planet. We changed that once we got hold of that great skybox.

So yes, it is lower in quality, but we gladly accepted that 😉

See, I knew it 😉

Yah, me too. It's a great idea to allow in-atmosphere flight, so if the skybox isn't that hi-res, it's not that bad at all. I just asked myself if you could do something to "sharpen" it a lil bit, and now I know the reasons why that isn't possible 😉

hrhr.. it might be of lower quality but hey , who cares ? only a small minority of players will ever notice this. actually most of the players will only play the mission once or twice and the first time you arive at the nav point you are very suprised to find a "real planetary mission"
