Glide not functioning

I'm pressing Alt + G to toggle glide, but nothing happens, I'm still coming to a dead stop. This is a big issue because I keep running out of fuel during the Vega campaign's missile hunt (I know I suck at flying, but I also know there's a glide). I've checked the controls, and even remapped it, but I'm still coming to a stop when trying to glide.
