Xbox controller setup was created by GameWarrior2216
I'm having difficulty getting used to the default controls for the Xbox360 controller and I think my brain shut downed after seeing the key configuration screen. After taking a good look, I'm getting this feeling that I may need to play this game with both controller and keyboard but I rather just play with the controller by itself. So I was wondering if anybody here has a personal configuration I can use that's easier to use than the default one. By the way, why can't I use the trigger buttons? The properties say it's for the z-axis but no where have I found z-axis on the configuration screen nor when I use the trigger buttons does it do anything. I'd like to use it for either shooting and/or acceleration instead of StarFoxing it with the A button.

I think you should be able to assign the z-axis to be the "relative throttle axis" and it should let you control acceleration...I've never tried it with a 360 controller, but I think it should work.

Which trigger buttons. I assume you mean the analog shoulder buttons? Those are indeed the z-axis. And I strongly suggest using those for the roll-axis of the ship controls.

You should be fine with just the controler for the most used controls.

I'd put afterburner and decoys on the digital shoulder buttons (L1 and R1), the roll axis on the shoulder analog buttons (L2 and R2), gun fire and missile fire on two of the standard buttons and keep the remaining two buttons for stuff like "target nearest hostile" and "target ship in reticle" or something like that.

Then of course one analog stick for the ship controls and possible the d-pad for the view direction.

These are just suggestions though.

I'm working on trying to set up a decent config for a XBox360 controller as well. I'll try assigning the z-axis which I'd like to use for throttle. The left stick used to steer on the controller I'd like to set so when I push left or right my ship rolls instead of turning that way I can bank left or right instead of turning the front of my ship.

I'm LOVING the game though. The only thing holding me back from really getting sucked into it is trying to set up a decent control scheme until I get a new flight stick.

My old flight stick is broke and I drove all over central Florida yesterday looking for a new one only to find every store out of stock, even BestBuy. I'm probably going to order a new one online some time today.

If you consider buying a stick not only for WCSaga but also for other flight sims and you don't want to pay 400$ for Thrustmaster Warthog I recommend Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X . For a reasonable price (I bought it for the equivalent of 50$) you get a pretty nice flight stick.

After a few trial and errors, I think I found a decent config. First, here's the button mapping names for each key to save some confusion when binding keys if you didn't know already:

Button 1: A
Button 2: B
Button 3: X
Button 4: Y
Button 5: Left Shoulder/L1
Button 6: Right Shoulder/R1
Button 7: Back
Button 8: Start
Button 9: Left Stick/L3
Button 10: Right Stick/R3
D-Pad Up/Down/Left/Right: Hat Forward/Back/Left/Right
Left/Right Trigger(L2/R2): Z-Axis

I mostly played around with flying more than fighting but I think what I have for combat is good enough, although I did manage to only get up to the second level so who knows:

Left Stick Y-Axis: Pitch Axis
Left Stick X-Axis: Turn (Yaw) Axis
Left Stick/L3: None
Left Shoulder/L1: Target Ship in Reticle
Back: Target Next Friendly Ship
Hat Forward: Target Next Enemy Ship
Hat Back: Cycle Secondary Weapon Bank
Hat Left: Cycle Forward Primary Weapon
Hat Right: Cycle Secondary Weapon Firing Rate
Left/Right Trigger(L2/R2): Bank Axis (Inverted)
Start: Equalize Shields
Right Shoulder/R1: Match Target Speed
Y: Launch Counter Measure
X: Afterburner
A: Fire Primary Weapon
B: Fire Secondary Weapon
Right Stick Y-Axis: Relative Throttle (Inverted)
Right Stick X-Axis: None
Right Stick/R3: Toggle Auto Pilot

Well, there you have it. So far I'm loving this game although I do have some minor suggestions to add relating to the controller input. No it's not the trigger or analog shoulder buttons or whatever it's called, I think it does actually work better as a maneuvering button than attacking. I think you should be able to skip cutscenes and advance to the next stage without having to use the mouse/keyboard but that's just probably me complaining since I'm lazy ;) . Again, great game guys, I still can't believe this was made by fans of the series. Also, pic of my HUD i.imgur.com/eldPk.png .
