Other good FS2 standalone games (except TBP)

I play the Bablon Project for 6 years now, and now your great WC Game. but are there other good standalone FS2 games which are released ???


I have see some "FS1 in FS2 engine", but I am not sure if I need a original FS2 for it, because i got none

I've checked and so far its only TBP and WCS that have been released but you can get fs2 for $6 on gog.com and with that there is a large number of missions campaigns and mods available in addition to fs2 its self. or you can bug the stellar wars, shadows of lylat, fate of the galaxy, or diaspora devs into letting you be a tester.

Standalone game not so much, but there are some really great campaigns based on FS2 and FSO respectively. You will need an original Freespace 2 though, and the version from GOG works just fine.

Even the older and the original campaigns are worth a look. I played them in this order, which sorts them according to the timeline:

• FS Port (the original FS1 camapaign with FSO optics, runs within FSO, NO need to buy FS1)
• Silent Threat - Reborn (an original campaign, remade and enhanced by the FSO community, fully voiced)
• Shrouding the light (focusing on the Hammer of Light, you play as a Vasudan, fully voiced)
• Freespace 2 with FSO (the original campaign in all new FSO graphics)
• Derelict (considered to be one of the best fanmade campaigns, fully voiced)
• Blue Planet (first part of a duology, all new ships and weapons, 18 years after the FS2 events, fully voiced)

hm i think in germany its a little hard to get a freespace 2 copy

but can I use every version ? i hope that the mods get the game to the graphical standards TBP and WCS set

If your english is good enough I definitely recommend getting the GOG-version. The mods are english anyway and you will end with a german-english mix. The whole UI will be german, also the FS2 cutscenes and voiceover. But all the other campaigns feature english voiceovers and partly text (new ships with english deescription, standard ships with german descriptions).

I prefer everything in english.

As far as compatibility goes you should be fine though. All the campaigns will work with the german version.

If it helps you: I have this version and it works. I bought the GOG version afterwards to have everything in english. ^^

So that i got it right. I buy a freespace 2 version, and then there are mods which upgrade the graphics so that there are like in TBP and WCS ? And mods give me the FS1 missions. So at the end I have FS1 & FS 2 missions with the graphics which are possible at the moment in this engine

yep buy the game and go crazy (there is also the not stand alone total conversion by the name of "wings of dawn" if you like anime)

Exactly.

Though it is my personal believe that, even with the upgraded graphics, WC Saga still looks the best. I guess it's the coherent style and the unbeatable original design of the WC fighters and ships.

Freespace did try to create it's own look, and some of the designs are pretty cool, but its really an up- and down the (quality) scale. Especially the Shivans. They work good as enemy...things...to shoot at...but please don't look any closer.
