The Oberan System is a relatively unremarkable star system centered on an aging red giant. The primary star’s advanced stellar evolution limits the habitable zone significantly, and most of the system’s planets are either too hot or too cold for comfortable habitation.

Oberan 3 is the system’s sole inhabited world — a partially terraformed planet with a thin but breathable atmosphere. Terraformation efforts began decades ago but were scaled back as the war diverted resources to more strategically important systems. The colony that remains is small, largely self-sufficient, and far from the front lines. Its primary exports are rare minerals extracted from the planet’s geologically active crust.

The system’s gas giant, located in the outer orbits, possesses several resource-rich moons that have attracted limited mining operations. These moons provide fuel and raw materials for ships passing through the system, making Oberan a minor waypoint on secondary trade routes.

Extensive asteroid belts ring the outer system, remnants of failed planetary formation. These belts provide natural cover and have been used by both smugglers and Confed Intelligence for covert operations. The dense debris fields make navigation hazardous but also make the system difficult for hostile forces to sweep effectively.

Oberan’s strategic importance is assessed as minor — it sits away from major jump corridors and holds no critical military infrastructure. However, its relative obscurity has made it useful as a staging area for special operations and a quiet berth for ships in need of repairs away from the front lines.
