if i had to pick 1 mod that i wish would be implemented it would be this. how cool would it be to be able to land in your(or any) Cap ship hanger bay and perform repairs, refuelling re arming og your fighter? i cant freaking believe this was not put in wingcommander in the firstplace.it just seems silly to me to not have it in the game and i wuold fall of me fuqin couch/seat if it wer to be modded in.i would even be willing to donate some funds(maybe 20 or 30 $) to see it done..what do you all think of this? :?:

I think that its perfectly doable (in fact, it's already been done in the FS mod/Total Conversion Wings of Dawn), but it would alter mission balance significantly if it was implemented in existing saga missions.

It's not at all unheard of Mormon_boy, and there are reasons for doing this, particularly in battles between carrier groups.In WWII the Japanese carriers Sōryū and Shōkaku were sunk a Midway rearming and refuelling aircraft between sorties while trying to keep pressure on the Allied 16 and 17 Task Forces. Also, look at the final mission against the Wratghar, this was a mission that several wings in multiple waves were tasked with sieging the cap-ship with the ultimate task of destroying it. Those fighters that returned relatively undamaged (if any. :p) would have been re-armed and refuelled and sent back in in composite wings. It's a means of sustaining a presence during hostilities and projecting a carrier group's power.
A perfect example of a mission that could employ this would be fighter and strike fighter wings supporting cap-ships during a jump point blockade. The carrier can be located relatively close, yet out of harm's way and still provide formidable support to friendly cap-ships tasked with holding the line. As the fight progresses, fighter wings can be rotated through the AO as circumstances require. The real issue is that it would have to be more of a scripted event (ie, limited to certain types of missions) rather than being able to bolt back to your carrier at your volition. Otherwise, you'd be wasting an awful lot of time travelling back and forth, no to mention, time being a critical factor in terms of objectives and all.

well i kinda thought it went withoutsaying that this would only be done under situations such as Cap ship defence and what not.ther have been a few times now that i have returned to my Cap ship,low in weapons and with lots of hull damage to find that it is under attack and needs to be secured beefore ending the mission. it would be nice to atleast have the option to rearm and repair.thats just me talking though.otherwise this is a great game

I think some of the WC games have a small shuttle craft that is designated as a supply craft. If you need to rearm or repair, you radio for the shuttle and it fixes you up. Unfortunately shuttle craft are light weight and miserably slow, as a result you may have to fend off attackers chasing your shuttle before you ever get the chance to rearm. Discussions on cycling fighter wings through a carrier for rearming are interesting, but in reality not necessarily the most practical idea. It's easy enough to follow fighters back to their refuel/rearm point potentially allowing a magnum strike against the carrier. Either way, those who are considering building mods should keep thinking about how to incorporate something like a midmission rearming. Consider the impact in the final WC-Saga mission if you had the option of calling for rearming....not to say the shuttle or arming platform would actually make it through all the enemy fighters and broadsides from the Kilrathi capships...but it would have made an interesting change in the mission.

well i havent played the game through yet(my minecraft server keeps me pretty bussy) so i cant speak to that one.however i still think being able to land in your hangerbay would be a good addition to the game if for no other reason then to add realizem/i mean like in what real life reality would you not be able to land/dock in your own hangerbay if your ship is damaged? it just makes sence to me.and also i would like to be able to actually land my ship at the end of a mission as oposed to just flying into the carrier and at about half way it just plos you to the debriefing screen.some kind of coding to alow you to botch landings and what not would be great aswell.again this is just me talking here,you can call me an idiot if you want

Well, again, the engine's physics wasn't designed to allow fighters to land anywhere, but the BSG-based mod Diaspora has been working on implementing a landing feature in Freespace Open , meaning that sometimes in the future, landings might be possible, and possibly ported into a hypothetic future version of the WCS engine by loving fans.

Landing are implemented in Diaspora already. They work just fine. But we'd need the WCS source before we could do anything along those lines.
