Up, Down, Left, Right thrust keys ?

I was experimenting a bit with the Up, Down, Left, Right thrust keys.
I assigned them on the 8-way cap on my throttle joystick and I tried to use them during flight/fight. But it seems that there is almost no visible effect when I use them during dog fights. I mean that the ship does not suddenly jump up/down/left/right.

Is anybody actually using them ? Am I doing something wrong ?

I might be wrong, but I don't think Wing Commander ships have side thrust capabilities. It is a feature that exists in the Freespace Open engine, which WCS is based on, but that isn't used in Saga, though the hotkeys are still present in the options.
