How do you land? was created by magyareagle
A quick question, in the first mission of the prologue I have been unable to land on the wellington at the end of the mission. How do you do that?

I haven't playded the Prologue, but generally you just fly into the carrier's landing bay.

Just fly through the flight deck, eventually the mission will end.

To land, you have only to reach about the middle of the flight deck. Nor your speed, nor your angle is elevant: 5% engine power or full afterburner, straight or upside-down, as you want...

I love to reverse-park when I glide in on an arrow :3 kick the afterburners and slip into autoglide, spin the controls and watch the atmo-screen recede. It's nice. I wish the rest of the ships didn't have mandatory inertial dampening like that. Really, the 'kick of force and it keeps going' thing is how objects usually move in freefall. From what I understand, though, the impressive amount of deceleration drag we experience in free space in our ships is a side-effect of our electromagnetic ram-scoop thrust technology--funneling and collecting the extremely sparse hydrogen content of the vacuum right into our reactors to be fused and pumped for energy and the like. Ah, but I digress.

I adore the details of the flight deck so much that even when I'm not in an auto-glide capable ship, I'm happy to just cut the engines to 0 thrust and swivel around, taking it all in.

Gods I love this game.

Wing Commander has always ignored Newtonian physics (and relativity, and causality, and all kinds of other stuff) in the interest of making the game fun. Try playing Mantis ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XF5700_Mantis ) to see what happens when you try to use Newtonian physics. I'll give you a hint; there's a reason that was both the first and last space fighter sim to do it ;)
