I have seen a lot of stuff about "Wine". A program that can run windows based games and applications.
I have tried it without success, but I am not that computer literate.
I have got the game to install but not run. I may not have the patients to set it up properly.
So I would also like to see a OSX version.

I went to download "Wing Commander Saga: Prologue (Mac)", but it said:

IMPORTANT: This file is obsolete and for reference only.

"Ah!" I thought, "the final release must be available." Sure enough, there in the Releases directory is a 3.32GB file marked "Wing Commander Saga: The Darkest Dawn". It doesn't say (Win), it doesn't say (Mac). Also in the Releases directory is the Darkest Dawn DVD Cover. "Hybrid DVD!" I exclaimed.

It was only after downloading the 3.32GB zip file that I could see its contents: a Windows executable. That was sincerely disappointing. Nowhere on the release download page does it admit to being Windows-only. "The Linux and Mac versions will be available soon" said the press release, three months ago. Was I wrong to assume, since the Archived files list both (Win) and (Mac) versions and the Releases file specifies neither, that the 3.32GB file was a DVD image that contained all three versions?

What I'm trying to say is, I downloaded 3.32GB and still didn't get to play anything. :?

Sorry, but what you looked at was the Prologue for Mac from the year 2006 or so. That's why it is marked as obsolete.
The new improved version of the prologue campaign is integrated in the full release of Wing Commander Saga.
The Mac version of that one is not available yet, though. The Saga team is not a company, everything is slower when people work on something in their spare time. Please be patient.

IIRC people have managed to get the windows version of the game running on Linux and Mac via wine/wineskin so you might try that in the meantime if you don't want to wait any longer. :)

I am thinking there is not going to be an OSX version.
Even the Prologue game for mac was removed.
Can't really ask for more, From what I can see game is spectacular.

Then, why say there will be one? Why say it's almost ready to go?

Even the Prologue game for mac was removed.

I'm downloading it right now. It was not removed.

Well I can't see anything. Because I'm on a mac.

Just for clarification: the Mac OS X and Linux ports (aside from the launcher) are both finished (and have been for over a month now) - some issues, that are totally unrelated to the development process or the team per se, have forced us not to release these ports in June as we originally planned.

A big thank you to Tolwyn for posting an OSX update.
I think maybe all us Mac and Linux users can stop harassing the message board now.
Can't thank the Development team enough for bringing this game back to life.
I have played from the start of wing commander 2, whent back to play wing 1, wore out wing 3, and now can introduce my kids to it.
WELL DONE.

@Tolwyn.

Have been looking for the native Linux / OSX versions for a while. You guys are great by putting so effort on this WCSaga. I listened to Andreas' podcast & can see how dedicated you guys are, trying to pull this all together with a small team. Can't complain even if there is a little more delay. :)

Suggestion: I already downloaded the Windows version. It's one huge 3.4GB folders comprising some files.

I was just wondering: Is it possible to release maybe a small installer for Linux/Mac OSX versions that just extracts game data from the Windows versions, plus the Linux/Mac binaries to run the game?

That way, the devs don't need to spend time to re-package the whole game for each platform, and also the download (just Installer + Linux/OSX binaries) would be much smaller & easier to manage & host on other gaming sites. Just a suggestion from an avid fan. :)

You guys deserve a good rest after all these game, soundtrack and editor releases. Hope to hear good news on the port release soon.

The price of freedom, is eternal vigilance.

One good thing (or not) about waiting for OSX version is that I found the BSG game. It has been fun but very time consuming. Can play for free, but it looks like most players have bought updates.

oh man, i'm waiting so desperately for the osx version...

since the release of the windows version i'm checking almost daily the wcsaga homepage, the english forum, the german forum, twitter and facebook for any news on the osx version.
to survive the last 4 months, i played throu WC2 and WC3 (via boxer), i read the novels freedom flight, end run, fleet action, the heart of the tiger and now i'm in the middle of action stations.
i tried to play the game with a port, but it didn't work... i also applied as a mac beta tester but i wasn't chosen.
Right now i'm seriously, thinking of spending 100€ on Windows and installing on my mac  , just to play this game !!!!

i hope that the crew is aware that there are people out there, who are waiting on wcsaga every single day.
